Another attempt to annex part of County Kilkenny by Waterford will be resisted with “every fibre of our being.”
The plan to develop the north side of Waterford city quays and part of the deep south is being seen as a “cynical” attempt by a “foreign body” to take commercial rates from Kilkenny and into Waterford city’s coffers.
“Again we have Waterford fighting to take our land and our capital revenue and it will not be tolerated,” Deputy John Paul Phelan said.
The Fine Gael TD who lives in Ferrybank is livid at the timing of the setting up of a new boundary commission to look into extending Waterford city into County Kilkenny.
“I’m worried that a large tract of Kilkenny including Slieverue will become part of Waterford city,” Deputy John Paul Phelan said.
He pointed out that a proposed meeting between the six councillors in the south of the county with their counterparts in Waterford failed because only one of the elected members from Waterford showed up.
“Co-operation is the only way to go, not divide and conquer”, remarked Mr Phelan.
