Organisers are putting the finishing touches to the inaugural Cat Run which takes place in the city this Saturday.
The Cat Run - Kilkenny’s half marathon event comprises three concurrent runs – a half marathon, 10k race and 5k fun run and will raise money for O’Loughlin Gaels and local charity Friends of St. Luke’s
Organisers believe that the timing of the initiative - which will coincide with the training schedule for the Dublin City Marathon and on All-Ireland Hurling weekend – and its challenging route through the environs of Johnswell will result in up to 700 entrants from all around Ireland for the inaugural run that will establish the initiative nationally as a “must run” event. Each race will start and finish in the grounds of O’Loughlin Gaels GAA club. There will also be entertainment throughout the day at the famed St. Johns. The Cat Run website has had a constant flow on online registration since going live earlier this year. Organisers strongly advise anyone interested in attending to register in the coming days to avoid disappointment.
Eddie Buckley, Chairman of O’Loughlin Gaels said: “Firstly, I think it’s important that we as a club acknowledge the tremendous support EUROSPAR has been, by their sponsorship of this event. The McCarthys have been strong supporters of both OLG and the wider St John’s community over the years. OLG is particularly indebted to John, Margaret & James - we simply could not have gotten this project off the ground without their help. The Cat Run is an excellent opportunity to showcase our beautiful city and to extend a warm welcome to visiting athletes. It is also our aim to make this an annual event on the national running calendar”. For more information and to register visit : www.thecatrun.com
