THE on-going problem of thieves taking beer kegs from pubs is continuing unabated. Last week Fitzpatrick’s bar in Ballyragget was the scene of a daylight robbery.
After Guinness had made their regular delivery on Wednesday morning an organised group of thieves struck around 11am. The brazen gang turned up in a van and in plain daylight they proceeded to load the kegs delivered to Fitzpatrick’s bar.
The gang were interrupted by the pub owner, Paddy Fitzpatrick, who said “I just got out before they took the last keg.”
Mr Fitzpatrick took down the number plate of the van which he has since passed on to the Gardai. The thieves got away with 10 kegs of Guinness, Smithwicks and Budweiser.
Luckily for Mr Fitzpatrick, Diageo have replaced his stolen stock at no extra cost.
The Gardai in Castlecomer have appealed for anyone who was on Patrick’s Street in Ballyragget between 11am and noon, on Wednesday last week, to contact them.
