A man has died in an industrial accident at a quarry, just a few miles outside the city.

The accident happened at a Mc keons quarry at Threecastles at 12.30pm on Monday.

Tony Bergin of Clashacrow, Freshford was killed in a tragic work place accident. The 49-year-old was an employee of Mc Keon Ltd for the past 17 years and is survived by his wife Irene and their three young children.

Frantic efforts to save Tony were made by paramedics and staff but he was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains were brought to St Luke’s Hospital.

The Health and Safety Authority are investigating the incident.
