A LOCAL councillor was attacked at the Fine Gael Ard Fheis which was held in Dublin docklands on Saturday.

Cllr Billy Ireland said that he could have ‘been in real trouble’ only for the intervention of the gardai after he was set upon by a number of people protesting against the household charge. The councillor was kicked a number of times in the legs and punched in the ribs as he tried to make his way into the convention centre.

Another man, who protestors mistakenly believed to be Minister Phil Hogan was also attacked.
