A CALLAN couple raised €11,925 in just a week for a Beat 102-103 wedding challenge but were pipped to the post by a pair of competitors who brought in over €20,000.

Anita Duffy and Noel Power from Callan were runners-up in the radio station’s “Win Your Wedding Competition” in association with with the Seven Oaks Hotel Carlow in which five couples competed for a €20,000 prize. In total, the participating couples raised €76,872.

The money raised by Anita and Noel will go to the Crumlin Children’s Hospital Cardiac Unit.

Despite not taking the top prize, Anita said the couple thoroughly enjoyed the week and were delighted to have taken part.

She also thanked all who donated to their cause – as they had started out with just €285 on Tuesday and nearly reached €12,000 by Sunday.

“It was a great week, and you learn so much about yourself too,” she said.

And after braving the tarantulas at Gowran Reptile Village and feeding dead rats to an alligator as part of the fund-raising challenge, making arrangements for the the couple’s wedding should be a walk in the park.

“It will be a breeze compared to this week,” Anita laughed.
