Dramatic rescue at John’s Bridge

A YOUNG woman was saved from certain death early on Monday morning. The unidentified female got into difficulty when she attempted to swim from John’s Quay to Bateman Quay just after midnight. Despite the icy cold waters, she managed to shelter on a ledge under John’s Bridge where she called out for help. The emergency services were contacted immediately and within minutes Kilkenny fire service were on the scene.

A YOUNG woman was saved from certain death early on Monday morning. The unidentified female got into difficulty when she attempted to swim from John’s Quay to Bateman Quay just after midnight. Despite the icy cold waters, she managed to shelter on a ledge under John’s Bridge where she called out for help. The emergency services were contacted immediately and within minutes Kilkenny fire service were on the scene.

Firemen managed to reach her and calm her down and she was quickly placed on the boat belonging to Kilkenny Sub Aqua Club. Club members brought her to the bank of the river where an ambulance was waiting for her. Gardai were also involved in the dramatic rescue.

The woman was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny suffering from hypothermia and she was later discharged.
