Spare a thought for community campaigner, Noel G Walsh. He has election posters erected all over the city and has been canvassing for months trying to make the breakthrough in the Kilkenny city West electoral area.
However, he missed the deadline for nominations on Saturday, May 3 at noon in County Hall.
The former Dail candidate is now out in the cold despite years of hard work building a strong base and a loyal volunteer force of ordinary people.
.In the front window of his home on St Rioch Street in the city he explained that he was told by officials that he had seven days left to put in his papers but he didn’t count Sunday and the bank holiday Monday as part of the time line for election purposes and missed out. He went in to the office on the Tuesday after the bank holiday and received the bad news. He explained that he didn’t listen to the local radio and didn’t read the Kilkenny People.
He has dome Trojan work over the last number of years and acts as an advocate for those in trouble and has been a great support to those who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law in Kilkenny Court House.
He is unhappy with the way he was treated and he makes a number of claims in the front window. He was told that the officials had no phone number for him when it looked as if he would miss out and the mobile number I rang to contact him didn’t work either. He has a considerable support base and would have had an outside chance of winning a seat. He is not supporting any other party in the election.
