Yvonne Ross’s recently-opened studio and gallery enjoys a stunning view of the Parade and Kilkenny Castle and is a fitting space to showcase the work of this talented artist.
Her work incorporates simple lines and shapes to create visually stunning pieces of jewellery - that exude an understated beauty.
The studio is a hive of activity and people are welcome to pop in and watch Yvonne at work or browse through the many pieces exhibited in the space.
These include a number of pieces that were inspired by the Oscar-nominated, animated feature film Song of the Sea which was created by the Kilkenny-based studio, Cartoon Saloon.
The studio, located on RoseInn Street was designed with the customer in mind and boasts a comfortable consultation area where people are welcome to chat to Yvonne about her work.
“There is a mix of once-off show pieces and more affordable pieces. I wanted to create a nice space where people can come to look at the work or to see the process of how pieces are created and of course to talk any particular ideas that they might have themselves around a piece that they would like designed,” she added.
Yvonne has won numerous prizes at the RDS National Crafts Competition and is a member of the crafts collective - MADE in Kilkenny which will have their annual exhibition at Butler House during the Kilkenny Arts Festival in August.
She originally studied Fine Art in the Dublin Institute of Technology graduating with an honours degree in 2004. She went on to run her jewellery business Yvonne Ross Designs selling mainly from The Loft Market in Powerscourt Townhouse, Dublin 2. In 2009 Yvonne closed her business and relocated to Kilkenny to study on The Crafts Council of Ireland Jewellery & Goldsmithing Skills Course. Since then she has worked for renowned craftsman James Mary Kelly (JMK Goldsmiths) in Castleyard Kilkenny City. In August 2012 she relaunched her business and has now opened her studio in the heart of the city. For more see www.yvonneross.com
