Bernie battling to bring title back

Twenty-seven women are set to fight it out for the coveted title of Queen of the Land.

Twenty-seven women are set to fight it out for the coveted title of Queen of the Land.

Representing Kilkenny is Bernie Woods from Mullinvat Macra na Feirme Club. Ms Woods will travel to Tullamore, Co Offaly to take part in the 46th Queen of the Land festival sponsored by FBD.

Over three event packed days they will be appraised by a distinguished judging panel who will take into account appearance, personality, energy, confidence, dress sense, rural knowledge and elocution to choose the contestant which best exudes the qualities of today’s modern rural woman.

The 2011 judging panel are: Amanda Brennan (Representative of FBD Insurance), Henry Healy (Relative of President Barack Obama) and Sherine Prendergast (reigning 2010 Queen of the Land).

The Official Opening of the Festival takes place at 8pm on Friday 11th November in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore. The Queens will face interviews with the judging panel in the Bridge House from 8.00am on Saturday 12th November.

The Gala Banquet takes place at 7pm on Sunday 13th November at the Bridge House Hotel. The announcement and crowning of the 2011 Queen of the Land sponsored FBD will take place at 11pm. Music by Fiesta, tickets €35 from Dave on 087 758 8127.
