The information-technology research centre being developed on the Kilkenny outreach campus of NUI Maynooth is due to open in March.
“We expect that to open at the end of March with a major conference,” county manager Joe Crockett told Monday’s meeting of Kilkenny County Council.
The information communication technology (ICT) research and innovation centre is being developed on the campus at St Kieran’s College as part of the Invest Kilkenny campaign to promote and develop investment in the county.
It is an extension of the Telecommunications Software and Systems Group (TSSG), which is part of Waterford Institute of Technology. Its centre at the WIT campus in Carriganore, Waterford has 140 full-time research fellows and 25 PhD students. It is linked with universities and companies worldwide.
The initiative is being developed by Kilkenny County Council, Waterford IT and NUI Maynooth in partnership with St Kieran’s College Trust.
