Memories and laughter as estate celebrates 75 years

Past and present residents of St Mary’s Avenue in Urlingford came together on Sunday to celebrate 75 years of their estate.

The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the more than 200 people who attended the event, with Mass, a procession by a lone piper, music by local musicians and a tree planting to mark the occasion.

Trees planted

A pair of copper beech trees were planted by the estate’s oldest resident, Mary Ryan, and the youngest, Emma Stapleton, accompanied by her grandfather Paddy Stapleton; and there was a toast to all who have lived in the estate over the past 75 years.

With a sing-song and plenty of stories and memories, the day also brought together people who had grown up together in the estate but hadn’t lived there for many years.
