in art competition

A KILKENNY youngster beat off competition from over 25,700 entries to be whittled down to be one of the finalists for the 2012 National Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

A KILKENNY youngster beat off competition from over 25,700 entries to be whittled down to be one of the finalists for the 2012 National Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

Eight-year-old Kayla Byrne was one of 180 finalists chosen from 26,000 entries submitted by young artists throughout Ireland. Winners and awards were presented to 180 children who were invited to an awards cermony to City West Hotel on May 30.

Kayla Byrne, who is a pupil at St John of Gods and is from McAuley Place on the Old Callan Road was one of two children from Kilkenny included in the national competition and Kayla has won a Special Merit Award in Category E to seven to eight years. Her parents Kate and Paul Byrne said that they “very proud of Kayla’s achievement”.’
