Mayor of Kilkenny Sean O’ hArgain has extolled the value of Kilkenny’s twinning arrangement with French town Moret-sur-Loing, having recently returned from a visit there.

The mayor and Cllr Joe Malone attended a special ceremony in France organised by Moret mayor Patrick Septiers. There was the dedication of a town square, and a sign to honour its links with Kilkenny was unveiled. A copy of that sign will also be erected here in the city.

Moret is just 40 minutes from Paris by train. Mayor O’ hArgain said he had met a number of people there who had visited Kilkenny in recent times.

“We would be foolish to under-estimate the value of this twinning arrangement,” he said.

“I think we need to develop all of our twinning connections, with Suzhou and Kilkenny, Minnesota as well. I think we should establish a twinning committee.”
