PLANS are continuing to be advanced for a greater third-level connection at Kilkenny’s NUI Maynooth campus at St Kieran’s College.
The proposed internet and communications technology (ICT) centre which is due to involve an extension of Waterford IT’s Telecommunications Software and Systems Group (TSSG) was launched last year as part of the Local Authorities’ Invest Kilkenny initiative.
Now, says county manager Joe Crockett: “We are working with WIT, and WIT is working with Enterprise Ireland. Planning and design is under way at the present time and there will be other developments in that over the coming weeks.”
The County Development Board chairman, Cllr John Brennan (FG), welcomed this progress and noted that it complements a promise in the Programme for Government to develop third-level options for students in the South East.
Kilkenny County Council is also currently putting together its capital programme for the next three years, which will include projects such as roads and waste-water treatment plants, Mr Crockett told the County Development Board.
