THE CHAIRPERSON of Kilkenny County Council Catherine Connery was amongst the chosen few who was at the Queen’s reception in the National Convention Centre last week.
Cllr Connery said it was a great lift for the whole country to receive the Queen for such a successful visit. “It was a very special honour to be one of the few that were there for the fashion show and the concert.”
While Cllr Connery didn’t get a chance to talk to the queen personally she said that she was struck by the enthusiasm that the queen showed for the whole country. “I couldn’t get over the enthusiasm and graciousness of the woman. The humility the woman showed in coming to Ireland.”
Cllr Connery said she wasn’t the only Kilkenny woman in attendance at the event. A Kilkenny girl Karen Fitzpatrick took part in the fashion show for the Queen. The fashion show was put on to promote Irish designers in front of the international media while the Queen was here.
