Brian wins All Ireland for Kilkenny at ploughing

KILKENNY’s Brian Ireland won the All Ireland, intermediate reversible ploughing class at the National Ploughing Championships in New Ross writes Sean Keane. Yesterday, working in difficult conditions, the Danesfort man beat off stiff competition from a number of strong contestants, including his own brother, Garry who came second.

Yesterday, working in difficult conditions, the Danesfort man beat off stiff competition from a number of strong contestants, including his own brother, Garry who came second.

PRO of the Kilkenny Ploughing Association, Seanie Ronan who is also a mentor to the Ireland men, said it was a fantastic achievement for the brothers and that it was a proud day for Danesfort and Kilkenny and augured well for the All Ireland hurling replay on Sunday in Croke Park between Galway and Kilkenny. The Irelands are sons of Fine Gael councillor, Billy Ireland of Ballyda, Danesfort and his wife Mary.
