Students in Kilkenny College TY Art have been kept extremely busy this year, with many of them even entering various competitions outside of school hours.
Earlier in the year fo Fashion Week, Lauren Thomas, Dylan Kerr and Nicola Hutchinson entered a competition for which secondary school students had to design an outfit from clothes no longer worn. Dylan Kerr came second, and won three weeks in the Grafton Academy of Fashion, next summer.
Recently, Dylan Kerr, Anna Daly and Nicola Hutchinson entered another competition for Savour Kilkenny, where entrants had to make a piece out of food that represented Kilkenny Life and Culture. Nicola Hutchinson came second and won an i-pod. Her piece was made out of everything from peppers to popcorn.
For the Green Schools initiative, pupils were asked to paint a mural in the school to raise awareness about recycling. Nicola Hutchinson’s design was chosen.
After the design was layed out on the wall, the fourth year Art students were working every spare moment on it. The end product is amazing and soon had students and teachers walking past in awe.
