A new support office for unemployed people is to open in Kilkenny in the coming weeks.

Labour TD for Carlow Kilkenny, Deputy Ann Phelan yesterday welcomed the news that the new ‘Intreo’ office will be opening in Kilkenny next month.

Intreo is the new integrated employment and support service provided by the Department of Social Protection.

It works by providing Jobseekers with individual support and assists them in getting back to work and increasing their employability.

“One of the main cores of this service is the provision of ‘one-stop-shop’ service from an office location in over 60 offices nationwide, and the office in Kilkenny is set to open next month,” said Deputy Phelan.

“Intreo is a new approach to engage with people who are unemployed with the aim of getting them back to work.

“The first day a client enters an Intreo Centre and engages with the service, that day is the start of their journey back to work,” she said.
