Each November young players go for the Dermot Goodwillie Brass Scholarship. The Scholarship is open to all primary or secondary school students. “Sometimes the winner gets help with lessons, or with buying a new instrument,” Philip Edmondson of the Brass
Project told the ‘People. ‘Our real aim is the promotion of Brass playing in Kilkenny and surrounding areas.’ The Scholarship was set up in 1997 to commemorate Dermot Goodwillie, who was a Horn player in the Kilkenny Youth Orchestra and also the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.
