A multi-million euro cash injection may be on the cards for the St Francis Abbey brewery site, with confirmation yesterday that Kilkenny County Council and the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund are considering a collaborative partnership for the site’s development.
At Monday’s council meeting, acting chief executive John Mulholland revealed that the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) has made contact to express an interest in partnering with the council to provide funding for the 13-acre site.
The NTMA manages the Strategic Investment Fund, which has been valued at around €7 billion for commercial investment. Mr Mulholland said that the interest in such a joint venture was a very positive first step in the regeneration of the brewery site.
Following a discussion, the elected members have said they will support the move in principal, with a special meeting to be convened next Monday to discuss the matter in detail.
