There could be a clash for the nomination to contest the county council elections in North Kilkenny on behalf of Fine Gael when the Muckalee branch of the party meets later on in the month.
It is widely expected that two potential candidates, with hopes of taking a seat for the party, will seek the branch’s single nomination. Just to add a little spice to the affair, it seems as though it will be two very good friends that will be clashing.
Chairman Patrick O’Flynn who is heavily involved in the GAA or who many people simply know as ‘Pado’ is to face local businessman Paul Corcoran who received a branch nomination in 2009 and actually nominated Patrick O’Flynn for the chairman’s position.
With the decision of sitting councillor Catherine Connery, Conahy to step down it is anticipated that a candidate from the Muckalee area would have a good chance of getting the nod at the selection convention for North Kilkenny likely to be held in the city before the end of the year.
Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Phil Hogan is expected to attend the meeting.
