Homeowners in 36 unfinished housing estates in County Kilkenny are exempt from paying this year’s €100 household charge.
The exempt estates are those where “a receiver has not been appointed and the developer is still in place but effectively inactive” or where “the development has been effectively abandoned and is posing serious problems for residents,” as determined by a survey of unfinished estates carried out by the Department of the Environment last year.
Anyone who owns a house in one of the named estates is still obligated to register for the charge at www.householdcharge.ie but will then receive a waiver for the fee.
