Mayor David Fitzgerald has praised those who attended a function held on behalf of Fáilte Isteach last week.
Fáilte Isteach is a community project which aims to welcome migrants through conversational English classes. The programme utilises the skills, talents and expertise of older volunteers and harnesses their desire to contribute positively to society.
Members of non-national and immigrant communities met at City Hall on the night, also facilitated by the efforts of Cllr Malcolm Noonan of the Kilkenny Integration Forum.
Speaking at last week’s borough council meeting, the mayor said it was a very positive occasion.
“It was an eye-opener to see the sheer volume and range of people at City Hall the other night, who actively participate in citizenship in Kilkenny,” he said.
