The Fen Men on their way

Taking its name from the proximity of a local marsh in Kilkenny city, The Fen Men is a recently formed active men’s club in Kilkenny.

Taking its name from the proximity of a local marsh in Kilkenny city, The Fen Men is a recently formed active men’s club in Kilkenny.

Based in the Newpark Close Family Resource Centre but with devotees citywide, the group meets every Monday night for recreation, fun and frivolity.

Currently, members participate in digital photography, computer classes, community activities, cards, darts, bowls, trail walking and golf. Importantly, conversation, allied to tea and biscuits, is a vital ingredient of team bonding.

Encouraged by Caitriona Corr, under the auspices of Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership, the group has added cycling to its repertoire. Utilising the comprehensive network of designated cycle lanes, members, with bicycles supplied by Jason Morrissey (Kilkenny Cycling Tours), began this endeavour on Monday night. The spin concluded after an hour, with group leader Jimmy Byrne expressing satisfaction. “All returned safely and no one got lost,” he laughed.

Anyone interested in joining The Fen Men for any of their varied activities (or if there is some project you would like to pursue) can contact chairman Jim Fogarty (056 7723309) or drop into Newpark Close FRC. Don’t be shy!
