The light of hope with Relay for Life

Relay for Life Kilkenny launched its Candle of Hope campaign on Friday at City Hall.

Relay for Life Kilkenny launched its Candle of Hope campaign on Friday at City Hall.

Committee members, volunteers and an Irish Cancer Society representative were on hand all afternoon to speak to members of the public who stopped by to find out more about Relay for Life or to dedicate a Candle of Hope in honour or in memory of someone who has been touched by cancer.

“Candle of Hope luminaries have very personal messages written on them. It is a chance to show support and admiration to those who fight the disease every day,” said organising chairwoman Josephine Kelly.

The candles will be lit in a ceremony at dusk during the Relay for Life Kilkenny event at The Watershed on July 20, 2013.

They are to act as a reminder for relay participants of those who have battled cancer.

Relay for Life takes place in over 20 countries. Money raised through sponsorship will go to the Irish Cancer Society.
