John McGuinness TD will be formally ratified as a candidate in the next general election at a Fianna Fail selection convention in Kilkenny city next week.
There had been speculation that he might step aside in favour of his son Andrew who has just completed a very successful year as mayor of the city.
The 60-year-old who is chairman of the Dail’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has maintained his hectic work schedule with constituency clinics as well as his PAC work and duties as Small Business & Regulatory Framework spokesman on the front bench.
Bobby Aylward who was successful in the Dail by-election in May will also be rubber-stamped at the Fianna Fail meeting in the Springhill Hotel.
It marks the first time in the history of the organisation that separate conventions are being held for Kilkenny and Carlow in the five seater Carlow-Kilkenny constituency.
