THE Gardai have started the New year by stepping up their offence in the battle against drugs.
The Kilkenny Drugs Unit have seized over 6000 euro in drugs and the proceed from drugs sine the New Year.
On January 3 Gardai arrested a male in a car in the Robertshill area of Kilkenny. The Gardai stopped the car and upon searching it they recovered 500 diazepam tablets. The suspect was arrested under the misuse of drugs act. The drugs have been sent for analysis and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On January 5 members of the Kilkenny Drugs Unit searched a premises in Rosewood. At the premises they discovered cannabis valued at 1,600 euro and 4,000 euro in cash. One male was detained under section 4 of the Misuse of Drugs act.
On January 10 Gardai from the Kilkenny Drugs Unit searched a premises in the Arches apartment complex on Barrack street and seized cannabis, amphetamines and diazepam with a combined value of 1000 euro. One male was arrested and detained under the misuse of drugs act. He was later arrested and detained pending analysis of the drugs and a file has been sent to the DPP.
