The operators of Galmoy mines, Orica UK Ltd have applied for planning permission to store explosives on a commercial scale and distribute them from Galmoy to other mines.
Orica applied to Kilkenny County Council to for permission to change the use of an existing explosive magazine facility and for permission to extend that facility, within the site boundary by the construction of a storage shed.
Orica are planning on storing 500kg of primers and boosters at the site. They are seeking permission to retain the existing access route, security fence, office building, including toilet facilities and septic tank, percolation area.
