They’ll be coming from all parts of Kilkenny and surrounding areas for the Castlecomer Wellie Race this New Year’s Day – and from Canada too.
Canadian woman Tressa McMaster, of Derry and Scottish parents, has won the prize of carrying the Canadian colours in Castlecomer on race day.
She was the “first lady” in the seventh Toronto 5k run, and organiser of that event Jim O’Brien said it was fitting for her to be able to join in the Powley festivities.
“We thought it would be nice to send over a runner to ’Comer to pay back those great people who have come out to Toronto on a couple of occasions to help put this great event on the map. They came from ’Comer, Coon, Ballyragget, Conahy and Crutt,” he said. “What a wonderful gang they were. The best of luck to Tressa and the hard-working Powley Vale Harriers.”
