Will it take a fatality to fix Dunne’s Cross, Bilboa? - Shortall

KILKENNY County Council officials were in Bilboa on Thursday to inspect the scene of the recent accident at the notorious Dunne’s Cross.

KILKENNY County Council officials were in Bilboa on Thursday to inspect the scene of the recent accident at the notorious Dunne’s Cross.

Cllr. Maurice Shortall says all are in agreement that the junction is dangerous and deficient from a road safety perspective. “While I acknowledge that Kilkenny County Council applied for funding for a low cost accident remediation scheme for 2012 but was unsuccessful in its application, immediate safety measures have to be taken before a fatality occurs.”says Cllr. Shortall.

“It has now been decided, in the absence of state grants, to pursue an immediate interim solution. This involves the consideration of an “All STOP” junction together with enhanced road markings on all approaches.

“The Area Engineer will liaise with an Garda Siochana on the proposal and will produce a design to be implemented at an early date.” Concluded Cllr. Shortall who thanked the officials for their interim solution and called for a full Scheme of Safety Measures in 2013.
