A MAN arrested in connection with the mugging of an 86-year-old woman has been remanded to Cloverhill Prison to appear before Kilkenny District Court on July 26.
Polish national Mariusz Chelstowski (35), of no fixed abode, appeared before Judge Patrick Clyne at Kilkenny District Court yesterday (Tuesday) evening.
He is accused of robbing Mary Nolan of her purse, which contained €200, on Walkin Street on July 10. The elderly woman remains in a serious but stable condition in St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny.
Mr Chelstowski was remanded to Cloverhill Prison by Judge Patrick Clyne until July 26 when he is due to appear at Kilkenny District Court.
Solicitor John Harte told the court that there was no bail application. “I have discussed it with him and we are not in a position to make one today so we will reserve our position,” he said adding that an bail application might be forthcoming on the next court date. The court also heard that the defendant had received medical attention, namely painkillers while in custody.
