The Rising Sun in Mullinavat will be raising the roof at 9.30pm on Tuesday, October 9 for Trad for Trocaire week. Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann are asking Kilkenny people to get in on the act this week and support their local ‘Trad for Trócaire’ session. Trad for Trocaire, which is an annual week of live trad music and fundraising, run by Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, takes place this week. With hundreds of sessions planned all over Ireland, traditional musicians nationwide are getting tuned up in a bid to fight global poverty. Since it began in 2010, over 700 Trad for Trocaire sessions have taken place from Kilkenny to Florida. This year’s event is set to be the biggest yet with over 500 gigs taking place in various locations all over Ireland, the UK and the United States. Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann are encouraging music lovers in Kilkenny to sample the best of Irish traditional music while at the same time contributing towards tackling poverty in communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
