WHERe better to view all of Gowran and Dungarvan than from the top of famous Stook Hill in Dungartvan. Preparationa are well under way for the “Stook10” Mile Road Race on November 18 with the base being Dungarvan Church between Gowran and Thomastown. The event is hosted by Gowran AC in association with Young Irelands GAA Club and DJ Carey will be taking part.
The Stook 10 set over a challenging but enjoyable 10-mile route will wind its way to the summit of Dungarvan’s famous Stook Hill followed by a rewarding 2.5 mile downhill run to the finish, taking in some of Kilkenny’s most beautiful scenery on the way and also of the country’s best land. The aim is to offer a friendly and enjoyable experience for runners of all abilities. In addition to the accurate course (jone counter measured), chip timing, online results and water stations you’d expect from a club organised race – there will be individual, category and team prizes on offer. Entry fee is €20. The race starts from Dungarvan Church, three miles south of Gowran village.There will be changing facilities, refreshments, sandwiches and cake for all participants in the parish hall afterwards. All proceeds from the race go to the juvenile members of Gowran AC and Young Ireland’s GAA Club.
5 kilometre dash
If you’re more of a sprinter or just interested in a fun walk don’t worry. There is also a 5 kilometre dash/fun walk. Starting and finishing also at Dungarvan church, the 5k loop takes in much of the same beautiful scenery without the steep hills. This is a guaranteed enjoyable day out, why not bring the kids? Under 12s are free with entry fee for the dash/walk costing just €10.
