Local councillor Maurice Shorthall is calling on the Government to do more to protect vulnerable staff at rural post offices, after the raid in Castlecomer a fortnight ago.
“We need some kind of Garda presence where large amounts of cash is being dispensed,” he said at a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee. Chief Supt Mick McGarry has said resources are too tight at present to do this.
