Kilkenny County Council is to urgently progress works on designs, costings and schedules for the second phase of the controversial Central Access Scheme.
Phase two refers to a section of the scheme from the the road at Kilcreene to the Butts roundabout. The link road may alleviate some of the traffic management concerns of residents in the Kennyswell Road area.
Phases two and three were not approved by An Bord Pleanala, following the oral hearing in 2008, on the grounds of prematurity.
However, Cllr Paul Cuddihy, who put forward the motion to advance phase two plans at Monday’s meeting of Kilkenny County Council, said there was no reason that the council cannot get the paperwork done in order to avoid delays and hardships for those involved. The motion was seconded by Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh.
County manager Joe Crockett said he would produce the relevant paperwork for the Department of the Environment without delay.
