Commitment to tackle flooding

Local TD Ann Phelan has met Minister of State Brian Hayes and received a commitment regarding the ongoing issue of local flooding in Thomastown and Graignamanagh.

Local TD Ann Phelan has met Minister of State Brian Hayes and received a commitment regarding the ongoing issue of local flooding in Thomastown and Graignamanagh.

The Labour Party TD said that Minister Hayes has outlined his commitment to tackling the problem of flood relief in both towns. He has suggested that a mixture of methods would be required to resolve the problem.

“Studies have been carried out on both towns which clearly show that the flooding situation is proving very complex,” said Deputy Phelan.

“Cost benefit analysis shows that if one scheme were to be implemented in both towns, it would prove extremely costly, therefore, the minister is proposing that individual properties be looked at to try to come up with a cost efficient not to mention, effective solution, to the flooding issue for both Graig and Thomastown.

“I welcome the Minister’s commitment to the project in working with Kilkenny County Council, local representatives and myself to address this matter which is of vital importance to both communities and in reintroducing the early warning system.”
