THE third seat for Fine Gael in Carlow Kilkenny was secured by Pat Deering who was keen to emphasise the importance of securing a seat for Carlow.
Deputy Deering insisted that it was essential that Carlow was represented in the 31st Dail. He said “I think its essential that Carlow has a TD, If we didn’t have a TD it would be the first time that that had ever happened. It would be a disaster for the county. We’re a small county we always feel in Carlow that we are treated secondary to Kilkenny.”
The newly elected TD was full of praise for the Fine Gael director of elections, Phil Hogan, who imposed strict discipline on candidates in order to get them elected. He said, “Discipline is very much the secret to it. It was spoken about in the last general election that we may not have been as disciplined and we didn’t get the seat that we should have got.”
