AFTER two of the five ploughing matches in County Kilkrnny there is a three way tie at the top of the senior reversible ploughing section. The three warriors involved include brothers Gary and Brian Ireland from Danesfort and Tom Madigan of Firhouse, Kilkenny. Only two can go through to the All Ireland in September at New Ross and so all eyes will be on the Gowran match in Dunbell on Sunday to see if the slightly older Madigan can dethrone the younger Irelands.
There were a huge number of ploughmen (no female competitors) at the Mooncoin Ploughing Match on Sunday. The site was perfect and congratulations must got to the O’Keeffe family for providing world class conditions at Rathcurby, Mooncoin. Even though, there was a lot of rain in the area on Saturday, the stubble site was remarkably dry the following day for competition.
