A KILKENNY entrepreneur is launching a non-profit website that aims to boost donations to Irish charities.
Francis Nesbitt’s Bid2Share.com combines the strength of online auctions with the reach of social media. Sellers can donate to one or all of the seven participating charities, which include The Susie Long Hospice Fund, Focus Ireland, Marie Keating Foundation, Concern Worldwide, Jack and Jill Foundation, St Francis Hospice and The Bubble Gum Club.
The way the site works is that a user sets up an auction to sell anything from an old debs’ dress, to a DVD collection, an iPods or a WII Fit. They can also donate their time – a swimming class if they’re a swimming instructor, a cake baking lesson if they can bake, or a week in their cottage in the country.
Bid2Share.com has been developed over the last two years by Mr Nesbitt, owner of Croan.ie, a web development and online marketing consultancy based in Kilkenny.
When putting something up for auction on Bid2Share.com, site userscan opt to keep a proportion of the proceeds of their auctions for themselves or donate all of the proceeds to the charity of their choice.
