PROPOSALS are in place to lower ramps outside Gowran School and church to help undertakers.
Senior executive officer with Kilkenny County Council Michael Delahunty explained that vehicles with a long wheel base are encountering difficulties on the two ramps outside Gowran School and Church.
“There is a particular difficulty with hearses which have no option but to gain entry and exit the church and burial ground,” he said. “It is proposed to lower the height of the ramps to accommodate hearses while at the same time provide sufficient ramp so as to ensure the safety of all those who use the school, church, burial ground and community hall,” he added.
Following residents’ concerns that the ramps will be removed, the council’s area engineer clarified the correct position with Nellie Brett and John Connolly of the local development association. A public meeting took place in the parish hall yesterday (Tuesday) evening. There was no council official present but the council’s area engineer will continue to engage with members of the development association should there be any further need to do so.
