As part of the ‘Conservation Through Education’ programme at Kilkenny’s Reptile Village Zoo, the staff spend lots of time visiting schools around the country with a variety of friendly and fun reptiles.

They spend the whole day telling the children all about reptiles and their place in the wild – and the best part is, the kids even get to hold them.

However, each year, schools seem to have a smaller and smaller budget available for these kinds of activities. The zoo has come up with a solution to allow schools with all types of budgets to experience this unique and interesting way to learn about reptiles.

They are now offering schools a voucher for a birthday party in the Reptile Village Zoo, or a one-year family membership pass worth €65.

The idea is that, in order to raise funds to have the Reptile Village Education Team in their school, they hold a raffle with the voucher being the main prize. The zoo says that this is an innovative way to allow schools to continue to experience the educational programme with a minimum cost.
