Man remanded on robbery charge

A 35-YEAR-OLD woman accused of robbing an 86-year-old woman close to her home in broad daylight has been remanded in custody.

A 35-YEAR-OLD woman accused of robbing an 86-year-old woman close to her home in broad daylight has been remanded in custody.

Mariusz Chelstowski, of no fixed address appeared before Judge Eamon O’Brien yesterday (Tuesday). He is accused of robbing the injured party of her purse, which contained €200, on Walkin Street.

Inspector Joe Carton told the court that a file had been sent to the DPP and that directions were expected shortly. “My client is in no position to apply for bail as he has no fixed address,” his solicitor Mr John Harte told the court.

The defendant, who is from Poland, was remanded in custody until October 1 when he is due to appear at Kilkenny Distrit Court.
