Gay rights campaigner, Tom Reade from Kilkenny jumped for joy when the result of the Same Sex Marriage referendum result was announced at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny just after 5pm by returning officer Maria Garahy,

The referendum was passed with ease in both counties with 56.2% in favour and 43.7% against. In the run up to the referendum, the Church of ireland Bishop of Ossory, Michael Burrows called for a Yes vote and the Catholic Bishop of Ossory, Seamus Freeman had called for a No vote.
