GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses following a number of serious assaults in the city over the festive season.
On Christmas night a woman was viciously set upon by two youths who approached her as she was walking at Upper New Street at 8.15pm. The victim was struck in the face in the unprovoked attack.
In a separate incident, two men were arrested following a row on Kieran Street on Christmas Eve. Three men were involved in the row where initially one man was attacked. A second man who was passing and tried to intervene was also brutally assaulted. Both men were brought to St Luke’s Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.
The two suspects were questioned at Kilkenny Garda Station and released without charge. A file on the matter is being prepared for the DPP.
On December 23 a male was arrested following an attack on another man at Canal Square at 1.45am. The victim was brought to St Luke’s Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
