It is certainly a case of “happy new year” for Kilkenny all-star hurler Tommy Walsh and his long-time girlfriend Marlis Coonan as they tied the knot on Friday and are kicking off 2012 in style.
The six-time All-Ireland champion from Mountgale, Tullaroan and Marlis Coonan of Muckalee, Ballyfoyle were married in Muckalee Parish Church on Friday.
The groom’s brother Martin Walsh served as best man, and groomsmen were his brothers Padraic Walsh and Shane Walsh and Thomas Coonan, brother of the bride. The bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters Danielle Coonan, Claire Coonan and Edel Coonan and the groom’s sister Grace Walsh.
Page boy was Dean Coonan and flower girl was Anabel Coonan. Chief celebrant of the wedding Mass was Fr Wallace, con-celebrated with Fr Ryan, Fr Delaney and Fr P. Guilfoyle.
Afterwards, the couple celebrated with family and friends at a reception in Langton’s, Kilkenny and are jetting off to Mexico and Jamaica for their honeymoon.
Tommy is son of Michael and Frankie Walsh, Mountgale, Tullaroan and Marlis is daughter of Danny and Bernie Coonan, Muckalee.
