OSSORY Youth in association with Gowran Athletic Club are hosting a 5km fun run/walk in celebration of youth in Kilkenny on April 22 in the Castle Park at 11am.
This is the final event in a series of introductory runs/walks that Gowran Athletic Club is hosting for the second year, catering for walkers and beginner runners.
The first event is on April 1 is a 2km run, followed by 3km run on April 15 and finishing with 5km run on April 22, allowing people who are new to running to build towards the 5km.
This year, Ossory Youth have become involved as they mark the celebration of Youth Work Ireland’s 50-year anniversary.
John Lennon from Gowran Athletic Club is delighted that Ossory Youth are on board this year for the 5km.
“We had hoped that this series of introductory runs would appeal to young people and those that are new to running so we are thrilled that Ossory Youth are joining us in hosting this event.”
Martina Maher, Rural Outreach Worker with Ossory Youth, said “We are hoping that plenty of young people from Kilkenny will get involved on the day. It’s for all level of fitness, with the emphasis on a fun day out.”
Youth Work Ireland Week is a celebration of local youth services led by local people.
Events will take place all around Ireland and nationally on the week of April 22-28. Thousands of young people, volunteers and local people will take part.
Mary Mescal, CEO with Ossory Youth, said that during Youth Work Ireland week youth workers and volunteers will work with young people all throughout the country in their communities, to make Ireland a better place for young people and to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Registration will be available on the day outside the castle gates from 10am. Entry is €5 adults, €3 teenagers and €1 for under 12’s. Children and buggies are welcome and t-shirts for those that complete the series
