Members of the Thomastown Electoral Area approved the allocation €100,000 per year for three years (2012-2014) to co-fund projects being developed by Kilkenny Leader Partnership and Trail Kilkenny.

The projects are the Nore Valley Walk (Bennettsbridge to Thomastown), Explore the Barrow Trail Development Canoe Trail (Goresbridge to St. Mullins), a Culture Trail and a Ghost Trail. Other projects are an all weather facility, outdoor tourism hub, outdoor tourism centre building and outdoor tourism INTERREG programme in Graiguenamanagh.

The estimated maximum contribution required from Kilkenny County Council to fund these projects will be €360,000. Members have committed to €300,000 of this funding over three years. There is also an uncommitted capital allocation of €95,155 in the 2008 Recreation Scheme Fund (Thomastown area). €60,000 of this can be released to fund the balance. This was proposed by Cllr. Jane Galway, seconded by Cllr. Sean Treacy and agreed by all members.
