Further remand for mugging suspect

A MAN arrested in connection with the mugging of an 86-year-old woman has been remanded to Cloverhill Prison to appear before Kilkenny District Court on August 21.

A MAN arrested in connection with the mugging of an 86-year-old woman has been remanded to Cloverhill Prison to appear before Kilkenny District Court on August 21.

Polish national Mariusz Chelstowski (35), of no fixed abode, appeared before John Coughlan at Kilkenny District Court on Thursday.

He is accused of robbing Mary Nolan of her purse, which contained €200, on Walkin Street on July 10.

State solicitor Gerry Meaney told the court that a file on the matter had gone to the DPP but that no directions had been received from the DPP to date. Mr Chelstowski was remanded to Cloverhill Prison by Judge John Coughlan until July 26 when he is due to appear at Kilkenny District Court.
