THE 2013 ploughing season got off to a late start over the weekend. The first match was on the Kilkenny calendar was at Mooncoin on Saturday with around 40 competitors.
The senior reversible section was won by Brian Ireland from Danesfort. The current All Ireland champion was in tremendous form and was also successful on the following day at the Johnstown Ploughing Championships. There were around 40 competitors on each day and the dry weather of the last week ensured a good sod at each site and there’s more ploughing this weekend with the Gowran match on Friday at noon on a site just below the GAA pitch in the village and on Sunday, the Tullogher-Glenmore match will be held at Shanbough, just outside New Ross.
